It is my belief that classroom instruction must include aspects of behaviorism to be successful. On page 188 of the text "Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works", it talks about the importance of practice, exposure, and immediate feedback. All of these recommendations are consistent with behaviorism.
Incorporating technology enhances student learning through behaviorism. There are many computer software programs that allow drill and practice and offer immediate feedback. Some of them progress at the individual students' pace which is a great tool for drill and practice. As stated in the text, web resources allow students to practice at home. Some of my homework assignments are websites students can work on at home.
As a behaviorist I believe that drill and practice are important, – the more we perform a task, the better we get! Dr. Wolfe reiterates this idea in the video presentation when she states that the more our brains are activated, the more learning is increased (Laurete, Wolfe).

I agree that drill and practice are important. I often think that today's students are so lucky to have all of these great tools at their disposal to activate their brains!
ReplyDeleteWhat are some websites that you use for homework practice? I will be teaching kindergarten for the first time next year and I can use all the ideas I can get!
I have so many! I will look them up and share them with you. One for sure is: www.starfall.com. It is a great site for kindergarten. After just a couple of instructions, the students can use it themselves. It is very user friendly. My school subscribed to educationcity which is a great site for k through 5th. It is relative to behaviorism in that it gives immediate feedback, and allows students to progress at their own pace.
ReplyDeleteWhat led you to kindergarten? I will look up more websites for you, and some other things. I sure do not want to seem overbearing!
Amorea,
ReplyDeleteYou will not be overbearing at all. I taught first grade last year and I feel honored to be teaching Kindergarten this year. I am excited because I know exactly what I would want a First grader to be like during those first few days of school and now I get to be one of the teachers that help get them 1st grade ready. So the more websites the better!
